A stroll through the historic Mountain View Cemetery

Founded in 1863, the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland is a historic and gorgeous landmark of the area. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I’ve been to and I was happy to stroll through the lovely grounds on this sunny day.

Most of the grave sites here are quite old and feature some great design from the turn of the century through the forties. My favorites were those that have an Egyptian theme. I’ve always had a fascination with Ancient Egypt & really love the imagery that came back into fashion in the 20’s, when King Tut’s tomb was uncovered.

This was my favorite sighting of the day. I wonder who this person was & how they came to rest in this elaborate pyramid.
